I just can't even wrap my head around it - I am in Diocletian's Palace, staying in a rented room overlooking a charming courtyard. This place is A. MAZE. ING.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. We traveled to Plitvice Park on Wednesday evening, and the road in was the most harrowing I have ever driven. How bad was it? When I woke up yesterday morning, the backs of my hands ached from gripping the steering wheel so tight. The road was single lane (mostly) with severe drop offs and hairpin turns, and occassional oncoming traffic at rather high speed.
So yesterday we spent at the park, and the following photos are only a fraction of the magnificence:
A damsel fly (?) landed on Mom's glasses
Water the color of Listerine
The big falls
One of many places where the boardwalk went directly over a small waterfall
Yesterday evening we then traveled to Zadar - the home of the famous sea organ. A couple of pics of Zadar, and an audio of the sea organ at night, when it is at its quietest.
View from the rooftop deck of our apartment
No video, only the sound of the sea organ at night.
This morning then, another visit to the sea organ and off to Split.

And now, today, I'm in the most amazing historic place I've ever seen.
Completed in 305 AD, the fascinating part of it is that after this palace was abandoned by the Romans, it sat empty until the 600's when local people took refuge from marauding Croats. People have lived in it and run their businesses in it ever since. Probably because of that, it is the world's most complete remains of a Roman palace.
And it is stunning.

The seafood was excellent, but the beggar was relentless (and well rewarded)
