New travels, new ijits

It’s been over 3 years since I posted here. Not that I haven’t traveled any, but because it all paled in comparison to the trip to the UK we took. However, the game is afoot again, and there will be much mischief and mayhem.

Previously, the aforementioned ijits were Greg, myself and our daughter Alex. This time the cast has changed a bit – my mother is going in Greg’s place. God bless him, he’s not complained once. Because I didn’t complain when he took a trip out west with our boys. Twice. So…buh bye, boys!

umm. this picture might be a little dated…

It’s an awesome thing to have an opportunity to take a trip with three generations of women in our family. My mother has been all over the world – Germany, Greece, Ireland, Costa Rica, the Galapagos Islands (really? I know, right?) but not to London, and for Christmas my dear uncle, her only brother, gave her the gift of a trip to visit Alex in London. So sweet! But although my mother is more adventurous than she ever used to be, she’s not the type to hop a plane across the pond by herself.

As it just so happens…

Alex and I were planning a trip - just the two of us (because of the guy trip thing, see above). We immediately began dreaming of all the exotic places we’d like to see (my list was considerably longer, since she travels the world for her work) and then the unthinkable happened – Alex was diagnosed with breast cancer. We put all plans on hold, waiting to see what treatments she would undergo, how she would feel, when she would be free to travel, etc. It seemed that the best course of action was to start in London, then if she thought she had the energy we could go somewhere exciting from there.

She’s finished her chemo and about to start radiation treatments, but confident that she’ll be ok to travel in June, so we asked my mother to join us. We’ll start in London and show Mom the touristy stuff that she wants to see, and then we’ll hop another plane.

TO FREAKIN’ CROATIA! How cool is that?!?

“Whaaaa?” I hear you say -

Check these pics from the Plitvice National Park:

and the video of the sea organ in Zadar, where the ocean waves play a song on the concrete sculpture:

Oh, and did I mention that while in the city of Split, we'll be staying in Diocletian's Palace?

Hehehehe. Yeah.
